As owner and cake designer at The Fancy Cake Boutique I love what I do and view each new cake as a challenge to further develop my craft. I am a self taught baker and cake artist. I am passionate about cake design. I am passionate about quality: in my cake design I strive to create one of a kind cakes that become part of your life long memories.
I grew up baking in the kitchen with my mother, as she was an avid baker. I was always her “little” helper and spent countless hours watching and learning from her. Baking has provided me with warm memories and happiness.
Early on, I realized that I had a knack for precision. All of my interests as a youth required meticulous attention to detail. In college, I gravitated to the sciences-math, physics, and chemistry. I graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Physics.
Seeking a creative outlet from my career as a Chemist, cake decorating seemed like the perfect activity after a long day. I enrolled in a few Wilton classes and started creating single layer sheet cakes for co-workers special occasions. The feedback was so positive and encouraging I realized I was on to something. I started to focus on sharpening my saw-spending many hours perfecting my recipes and flavor combinations, studying cake baking, cake design, and technique. I realized I had found my passion. I continued to educate myself by taking classes and workshops with many accomplished cake designers. What began as a hobby turned into a business. I have been designing and baking cakes for more than 15 years and continue to attend classes each year to stay on trend and learn new techniques. Over the years, I’ve studied with the best, trained with the best-and like them I strive for excellence.
A cake is not just a cake. All cakes are not created equally. The cakes I create are both delicious and beautiful. The perfect balance of great taste and stunning design. That is my calling card-elegance, quality, and taste.
Baking is a science. The principles of science that I studied in college are present in my cake designs: accuracy in its methods and results that can be reproduced consistently. I use advanced techniques and methods of modern cake design and decoration. But it is my passion and enthusiasm for this art, that ultimately creates the perfect cake.
